How will this course benefit me?
The course explores what we as parents and people working with children can do to bring up independent, responsible children.
You will be introduced to methods, strategies and techniques for bringing up happy, co-operative and confident children.
Adults will learn the creative skills and knowledge that could inspire and enhance career prospects.
What are the entry requirements?
Adults only course.
There are no special requirements. However, a fair command of spoken and written English is needed to take part in discussion and recording personal notes.

What will I learn?
To understand how our behaviour as parents/carers effect children in our care about setting and maintaining boundaries.
To use simple and specific language skills to communicate and motivate children.
To identify feelings and emotions from a different prospective.
To demonstrate practical step by step strategies and skills for improving co-operation and reducing conflict.
How will the course be delivered?
Verbal instruction and explanations, discussions, activities.
How will my learning be assessed?
You will choose something each week to work on with your family, and then you will see your progress as the course moves on.
Observation, Q & A, Individual learning plans.
What are the extra costs?
General stationery will be needed. The tutor will share publications that may be useful to you at the start of the course. The internet is also a good source for looking up general information on specific special-needs topics.
What can I progress to next?
Depending on your role, you could always further your knowledge by taking up other childcare-related studies. Also there are Employability Workshops held at the Institute.
Health and Safety requirements?
You will need to follow your teacher's advice and guidance to ensure that you are participating safely and following Health and Safety procedures.
Please note: You must attend every session or inform us if you can't, otherwise you will be unable to enrol on any future Family Learning courses.
