How will this course benefit me?
This course is designed to help you to develop your skills in using the basic Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

What are the entry requirements?
It is essential that learners have already completed a First Steps IT course or have equivalent skills. You are required to have an interview plus initial assessment in literacy, numeracy and IT prior to enrolment on this course

What will I learn?
" Use basic editing techniques
" Format simple word processing documents
" Create simple tables and add data to them
" Enter text into existing templates such as letters, faxes and web pages
" Use spell and grammar check to check the accuracy of simple text

" Create spreadsheets
" Insert, replicate and format arithmetical formulae and simple functions
" Select data and create charts and graphs

" How to create a simple presentation
" Use simple editing techniques and format simple presentations
" Present slides in different formats

How will the course be delivered?
You will have access to your own pc and plenty of opportunity for hands on practice plus personal attention, observation, demonstration. You will be given various tasks to complete during each session

How will my learning be assessed?
You will work on a set of tasks throughout the course. Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your progress and achievement. You will be expected to do some homework during this course. You will complete a Gateway Qualifications assessment in each of the three subjects

What are the extra costs?
You will need to purchase a USB stick to store your work.

What course can I progress to next?
The course will give you the skills and confidence to progress onto clerical jobs or further higher studies such as IT Progression, or Business Administration Level 1. Your tutor will provide you with advice on progression at the end of the course.

Any Health & Safety requirements?
No, but safe use of computers is essential. This will be covered as part of course induction
