Who is the course for?
This course is a natural progression for students from NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
It is very useful for those wishing to seriously embark on a career in counselling or increase their functional role by the use of counselling skills in the caring sector.

Are there any entry requirements?
" Interview essential
" You should at least hold the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or an equivalent qualification to at least level 2. Alternatively provide evidence of considerable experience in a voluntary or professional capacity of working with people on a one to one basis.
" Excellent spoken and written English is essential

What is the course about?
" The qualification will develop learners' counselling skills to a higher and safe level of competence.
" Provide a good understanding of counselling theory and raise awareness of professional issues in a counselling context.

What will I learn?
You will learn to acquire, develop and practice counselling skills and understand counselling theory.
Identify and understand professional and self-development issues and needs and construct a self development plan. You will learn how to work with the process and practice of safe counselling.

How will the course be taught?
This is a participative course and will include, individual and group exercises, skills practice in pairs and triads. Presentations will be expected and given on counselling theory, legal issues and agencies. Short essays, and the maintaining of a journal are also requirements. Individual tutorials will be provided by the Tutor when requested or necessary.

How will I be assessed?
There will be a combination of continuous self, peer, and Tutor assessments and feedback will be given both orally and in writing. There is an assignment set by the awarding body (not an exam) which will be marked externally by an external moderator during but not at the end of the course.
At the end of the course the learner will produce a portfolio of written course work including a learning and personal development journal which will be assessed by the Tutor, internal, and external moderators.

What qualifications will I get?
On successful completion you will receive the NCFE level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills which is a nationally recognised qualification.

Will I need to buy any books or equipment before I start?
The Tutor will discuss this at the induction session at the beginning of the course. Pens, paper, and a hardback folder are the only starting requirements.

How can I progress from this course?
To CPCAB level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Skills. This is a full qualification in counselling and allows you to practice as a professional counsellor and psychotherapist.
