This NCFE CACHE course is the next step in developing your career as a Teaching Assistant and may help you to gain employment. It will give you an accredited professional qualification and the skills and knowledge necessary for supporting teaching and learning in schools. Level 2 qualifications are generally the industry minimum requirement for anyone seeking work in this sector.

What are the entry requirements?
Spoken and written English - at least to Entry Level 3
Enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
An interest in the subject and a willingness to take an active part in the class
The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%
A work placement is essential for this course (paid or voluntary work) - we require written confirmation from your setting that you are in a suitable role for at least 1.5 days per week.
An interview is essential for this course

What will I learn?
You will gain an understanding of some of the basic principles of support work in schools including:
o child development
o how to work in a team, communication and relationships;
o How schools work as organizations.
o Practical support strategies
o Safeguarding and health & safety in a schools setting
o How to reflect on your personal skills and develop a reflective log of your progress


How will the course be delivered?
A mixture of taught sessions, workshops, discussions and presentations. This is an interactive course and you should be prepared to participate in group work, discussions and presentations. You should also expect to spend at least 2 - 3 hours each week on personal research and homework.

How will my learning be assessed?
The qualification consists of ten units and you will need to complete a portfolio of evidence showing how you meet all the unit criteria This might include written assignments, observation reports, projects, class notes, and witness statements. You will also be observed in your placement setting by a qualified assessor.

What are the extra costs?
You will need to pay for a DBS check if you don't already have one

What can I progress to next?
This qualification supports progression onto Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning (depending on your job role and experience). It may also possible to progress to Childcare or Adult Social Care qualifications if these are more suited to your career prospects or other vocational courses. Please note: If you don't already have English and Maths GCSE A- C you are strongly advised to take these as they are likely to become mandatory for Level 3 education courses and job roles.
