Course Notes

This NCFE CACHE course is suitable for staff already working in schools such as teaching assistants, learning support assistants, and special educational needs assistants, early years support staff or key workers. You will gain a professional qualification that accredits your existing skills and knowledge and gives you further insight into your professional role. You will have the benefit of sharing skills and experience with other teaching assistants working at your level. You will also be observed and have feedback about your professional role from a qualified assessor.

What are the entry requirements?
Excellent spoken and written English at Level 2 (GCSE Grade A*-C)
At least one years' experience as a Teaching Assistant in a school
The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%
A work placement is essential for this course (paid or voluntary work) - we require written confirmation from your school that you are in a suitable role for at least 2 days per week. You will need to be able to demonstrate some responsibility and autonomy in your role.
An interview is essential for this course

What will I learn?
You will further develop the skills and understanding appropriate to a Level 3 role including:
" safeguarding children and responding to emergencies
" planning and evaluation of learning activities
" promoting positive behaviour
" Building positive relationships with children and colleagues and developing your team role.
" Reflective practice and action planning


How will the course be delivered?
A mixture of taught sessions, workshops, discussions and presentations. This is an interactive course and you will be expected to actively participate in sessions e.g. by sharing professional expertise and experience, taking part in group work, doing presentations, etc. You should also expect to spend at least 3 - 5 hours each week on personal research and homework.

How will my learning be assessed?
You will be assessed in the workplace on your practical skills and complete a portfolio of evidence which will be continually assessed. You will undertake independent assignments. There are no exams.

What are the extra costs?
You will need to pay for a DBS check if you don't already have one. You may wish to purchase a recommended course text.

What can I progress to next?
This qualification supports progression onto foundation or full degrees in Childcare and/or Education as well as other specialist courses.
