Course Notes

How will this course benefit me?
The CPCAB Level 3 course is ideal if you are thinking about taking the first step in training to be an independent life coach. You may want to use life coaching skills and techniques in a variety of settings and roles including health and social care, human resources, education, mentoring and support.

What are the entry requirements?
Spoken and written English at Level 2
A level 2 qualification in Life Coaching or a related subject such as Mentoring, Counselling, Childcare, Teaching Assistant or equivalent
A willingness to participate in class discussions and activities and a commitment to personal study
The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%
You must be at least 19 years of age to join this course
An interview is essential for this course

What will I learn?
The course is made up of seven learning outcomes, based on the seven processes of the CPCAB model:
Work within an ethical framework of life coaching work
Manage the life coaching alliance
Work with client diversity in life coaching work
Support clients to reach their goals
Apply understanding of self to life coaching work
Use life coaching skills and theory to enhance practice
Reflect on practice to enhance life coaching work

How will the course be delivered?
A mixture of workshops, discussions, presentations and practical sessions. There is a strong practical element and learners will be expected to participate in discussions and workshops including life coaching skills practice sessions and group supervision. Taking part in personal life coaching is not a requirement to achieve this qualification but is highly recommended. You should expect to commit to 3 - 5 hours a week on personal research and homework.

How will my learning be assessed?
Internal assessment is via the completion of a portfolio of evidence showing how you meet the qualification criteria set by CPCAB. This might include peer and tutor assessment, learning logs, reports and presentations, tutor observation and/or video recordings. External assessment is via an externally assessed written paper completed under exam conditions.

What are the extra costs?
None.

What can I progress to next?
For those interested in following a professional route into life coaching we recommend the Level 4 Diploma in Life Coaching. You might also consider other related vocational areas such as Counselling or Mentoring. It could also lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others (health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, or other helping roles).

Health and Safety requirements?
Standard teaching room low level risks
