How will this course benefit me?
This NCFE course is for anyone interested in working in a support role with adult learners, work colleagues or with people in their local community. You will gain an understanding of the mentoring role and develop the skills needed to become an effective mentor. You will gain insight in to the role and practice of mentorship, learn about the mentor/mentee relationship, develop the specific skills and understanding required to mentor as well as reflect on your own learning and its benefits. It will support progression onto the Level 3 Certificate in Life Coaching and other vocational courses.


What are the entry requirements?
Spoken and written English at Level 2
A willingness to participate in class discussions and activities and a commitment to personal study
The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%
You must be at least 19 years of age to join this course
An interview is essential for this course

What will I learn?
The course is made up of three units:
The role of a mentor
Preparing for the role of a mentor
Demonstrating mentoring skills and techniques.

How will the course be delivered?
A mixture of workshops, discussions, presentations and practical sessions. There is a strong practical element and learners will be expected to participate in discussions and workshops including role-plays. You should expect to commit to 2 - 3 hours a week on personal research and homework.


How will my learning be assessed?
To achieve this qualification you will need to produce a portfolio of evidence showing how you meet the qualification criteria set by NCFE. This might include peer and tutor assessment, learning logs, reports and presentations, tutor observation and/or video recordings.

What are the extra costs?
None.

What can I progress to next?
This qualification supports progression onto the Level 3 Certificate in Life Coaching and other vocational courses such as Counselling Skills, Community Interpreting, Childcare, and Teaching Assistants.
